WHATS THE BOOK DEAL?
Halfway into Joe Torre’s book “The Yankee Years” I feel utterly deceived from all the hype about his book and the comments that were released to the media. This book is more stats and technical details on certain games that I already know than it is gossip, heartfelt experiences and after hours antics as the sleeve of the book mentions. Not only did the media make a big deal but I am currently not sure who actually wrote this book entirely.. was it Joe or Tom Verducci alone? It’s sporadic in its tale jumping from one subject to another than back to the original with no consistancy in it’s chapters. I wish Joe Torre wrote this on his own. If your going to pass on a book to the media as a gossipy type or “your experience”book then make sure it is that. I found this book to be a bit technical but there were several parts I found to be interesting and felt like it came from Joe Torre directly. I can say this after reading Paul Oneill’s book and noticing a difference.
So on that note the book has been released to the public.
nice review, Sheena.. Verducci probably i think asked Torre a lot of questions and then Verducci just pieced it all together.. it shouldn’t be that hard to write memoirs on one’s own i would think
do you think Torre wrote this book out of spite for the Yankees?
I don’t think it was written out of spite but I think it would of been more authentic if it wasn’t written with Verducci. I think Torre wrote with him so that it would not seem like he was gossiping but the book was still made out to be that way and it is not that way at all.
Verducci needs to go back to what he does best… Sports Illustrated writing. He does not do biography well.
Yeah, I agree that there were too many stats.

I’m only 53 pages into the book, but I like it so far. I just love hearing behind the scenes stuff.

Hey Sheena,
I asked Joe if he was going to have a book signing at Dodger Stadium and he said no. I guess I will need to buy the book and catching at the stadium for him to sign him. I did see several people at Camelback Ranch wtih the book and he did signed them
